Chapter six teaser for Permanent
We then took Abby over to the carousal and told her she could enjoy as many rides on it as she wanted. While she was enjoying her ride, I took the chance to talk to Tanya.
“So, how's the nightclub? Is business still as good as ever?” I asked, while I kept an eye on Abby.
“Yeah, business is great, but it seems I have to find a new fucking band to play at the club,” she scoffed.
“Why? What the hell is going on?” I could have sworn she told me that the band just started playing there just over a month ago, but I could also be wrong.
“It seems like the greedy bastards want more fucking money. I would like to see a club who pays as good as I do. Hell, I give them a percentage of the cover charge, plus I pay them a flat rate to play each night. How in the hell could they not be satisfied with that?”
She looked totally pissed. Usually her judgment in the employee's she hired was spot on. They were reliable, hard working and trustworthy, and in doing so, Tanya paid them well. “Do you need me to help you select a new band?”
“Actually, I don't. Emmett, he's my bartender, told me that his girlfriend's brother is in a band, and they would be more than happy to play at my club. I guess they play at this shady club, and they want out really bad. He only had one stipulation, and asked if the brother's girlfriend could waitress at the club. I saw no reason she couldn't, as long as her credentials passed my scrutiny.”
“Okay, but if you need me to do anything while we're in town, just let me know. I would be happy to help in anyway.”
“Now that you mention it, maybe before we leave to go back home, you can just make sure the piano is tuned and in proper working order. Emmett mentioned that one of the band members occasionally likes to tinker on the thing.”
“That won't be a problem. I would love to give it a shot myself. It seems like it's been forever since my fingers danced over the ivory keys,” I explained, giving her a sheepish smile.
We sat and talked for a bit longer, until Abby came to tell us she was hungry. We agreed to eat our lunch at the rose garden before we headed home for the day. The garden was the perfect place to go if you wanted to relax. Just looking at all the different roses, and the smells, I didn't think I would ever get enough of it.
